Key Fact: Whatever comes first in the sentence, the conjugated verb MUST be second. If something other than the subject comes first, the subject swaps places with the verb (verb-subject inversion).
Exam Tip: When a subordinate clause comes FIRST in the sentence, the main clause that follows has VERB-FIRST-SUBJECT order: "Weil ich krank bin, bleibe ich zu Hause" (NOT "ich bleibe"). The subordinate clause counts as position 1, so the verb of the main clause must be in position 2.
