Exam Tips: List operations in correct manufacturing sequence - order matters. | Distinguish between jigs (guide the tool) and fixtures (hold the workpiece only). | Include inspection stages in your production plan. | Link each operation to a specific machine, tool or process. | Consider safety at every stage: identify hazards and precautions.
Common Errors: ✗ A jig and a fixture are the same thing. ✓ A jig guides the cutting tool as well as holding the workpiece; a fixture only holds the workpiece. ✗ Inspection only happens at the end of production. ✓ Inspection between operations catches defects early, preventing waste of time and materials. ✗ Setup time is the same regardless of production volume. ✓ Setup cost per part decreases with batch size; larger batches have lower setup cost per part. ✗ Deburring is optional and can be skipped. ✓ Burrs create safety hazards, interfere with assembly and cause measurement errors; deburring is essential.
