Common Errors: Watch Out! Students often make mistakes here. Wrong: You just read the script, learn your lines and perform them — the playwright has already written everything you need. Correct: A script is a blueprint, not a building. The playwright provides the text, but the director and performers must make hundreds of interpretative choices: how to deliver each line, where to stand, when to pause, what the set looks like. Every production of the same play is different because interpretation transforms the written text into live meaning.
