Exam Tips: Warm up thoroughly before performing — physical and vocal preparation prevents injury and focuses the mind | Perform to the back row of the audience space — project your energy and intention beyond the examiner | If you make a mistake, keep going without stopping — continuity and commitment are assessed | Write your programme note early and refine it — it is assessed alongside the choreography | Practise your choreography in different spaces so you can adapt to the exam room on the day
Common Errors: ✗ Stopping and restarting when you make a mistake in performance. ✓ Keep going — continuity is part of the assessment. Examiners reward resilience and commitment, and a small mistake recovered from is better than a broken performance. ✗ Writing the programme note at the last minute without linking it to the choreography. ✓ Write the programme note during the choreographic process, linking intention directly to specific movement choices so it reads as a genuine reflection of the work. ✗ Only rehearsing the sections you enjoy or find easy. ✓ Devote extra rehearsal time to weak sections. The examiner sees the whole piece — a strong opening undermined by a weak middle section will lower your ove
