Common Errors: Watch Out! Students often make mistakes with this topic. Wrong: Knitting and crochet are the same thing — just different names for looping yarn. Correct: Knitting uses TWO needles to create fabric from multiple live stitches; crochet uses ONE hook to complete each stitch before moving on. Knitted fabric stretches and drapes; crocheted fabric is thicker and more structured. They produce distinctly different textile qualities.
