Common Errors: ✗ Roman legions were the entire army ✓ Legionaries (citizen heavy infantry) were only part of the army. Auxiliaries (non-citizens) provided cavalry, archers and specialist troops, often equalling or exceeding legionary numbers. The navy was also separate ✗ Hadrian's Wall successfully kept all barbarians out ✓ The Wall controlled and monitored movement rather than being an impenetrable barrier.
