🪐 GCSE Astronomy

Foundation Higher AQA 8463 & Edexcel 1AS0

Complete revision notes for GCSE Astronomy covering 26 topics across 6 strands. Aligned with AQA 8463 and Edexcel 1AS0 specifications. Covers planet Earth, the Solar System, stars, galaxies & cosmology, observational astronomy, and space exploration & exam technique.

🪐 Course Overview

GCSE Astronomy develops students' understanding of the universe, from our local Solar System to the most distant galaxies. AQA 8463 has two papers: Paper 1 (Solar System, 50%, 1hr 45min) and Paper 2 (Stars, Galaxies & Cosmology, 50%, 1hr 45min). Students must also complete two naked-eye observational tasks. Edexcel 1AS0 similarly has two papers: Paper 1 (Understanding the Solar System, 50%, 1hr 45min) and Paper 2 (Understanding Stars & Galaxies, 50%, 1hr 45min), plus an unaided observation task. Both boards emphasise practical observing skills alongside theoretical knowledge of celestial mechanics, stellar evolution and cosmology.
